What is Shortfill E-Liquid?

A shortfill e-liquid typically comes in 60ml bottles containing 50ml of nicotine-free High-VG e-liquid with 10ml of space to top up using a 10ml nicotine shot ‘booster’. Nicotine shots come in a variety of nicotine concentrations and either as freebase nicotine or nicotine salt. Since high-VG e-liquid is usually used in devices with higher power outputs, it can be easy to get through liquid fast. The beauty of shortfills is that, depending upon how frequently you vape, a shortfill can potentially last for weeks, saving you money that you might otherwise spend topping up your vape kits and tanks with individual 10ml bottles. By letting you have full control over the amount of nicotine in your e-liquid, you always know how much nic you’re vaping which can help you gradually decrease if you wish to go nic-free.

What are Nic Shots?

With pre-made, 10ml e-liquids, the nicotine is already mixed with the flavoured e-liquid. With shortfills, however, you add your own nicotine with 10ml nicotine shots. Nicotine can come in two forms, Freebase and Nicotine Salt.

Freebase Nicotine – This is the most common form of nicotine used in e-liquid. Freebase nicotine is generally more affordable and has a more distinct throat hit, especially when used in higher doses. Freebase nicotine at lower doses best suit advanced or sub ohm devices.

Nicotine Salt – With a lower PH than freebase nicotine, salt nicotine can be vaporised at lower outputs but can provide a higher dose of nicotine without the harsh throat hit that freebase would deliver with a high concentration of nicotine. This makes them best suited to classic starter kits or Pod Kits, as high-wattage devices can deliver too much nicotine per draw.

How to mix a shortfill e-liquid bottle?

Adding nicotine to a shortfill vape bottle couldn’t be easier. Simply unscrew the lid on your 50ml or 100ml shortfill and remove the nozzle cap from the bottle – you’ll usually find a groove at the base of the nozzle that can be released with a fingernail. Take your 10ml nicotine shot, remove the pipette and squeeze the contents into the larger shortfill vape juice bottle. Carefully dispose of the empty nicotine shot, then replace your shortfill bottle’s nozzle and lid and give the bottle a gentle shake to help the eliquid absorb the nicotine shot. Let the bottle rest for a few minutes, then you can begin vaping. With shortfills, it’s always worth giving the bottle a little shake from time to time, just to ensure everything’s mixed properly.

What Vape Kit should you use Shortfill E-Liquids with?

High-VG, sub-ohm e-liquids such as that found within shortfills, can be used with many different varieties of Vape device. High-VG juices work best with sub-ohm coils – coils with a resistance below 1.0ohm. This means they fire at higher power outputs, often between 20w – 100w and even 200w!

How many nicotine shots for 100ml shortfill?

Adding two 10ml Nic Shots to a 100ml Shortfill results in 120ml of e-liquid with a nicotine strength 3mg. This is optimal for a smooth and comfortable DTL (direct-to-lung) sub-ohm experience with high-powered vape kits and sub-ohm coils. You can add more nicotine shots for a higher nicotine strength, but you will need to decant some of nicotine-free base e-liquid to make room or top up as you go.

Can you add Nic Salt to shortfill?

As opposed to traditional Freebase nicotine, Nicotine Salts offer a much smoother throat hit even at higher strengths, and are absorbed into the bloodstream at more rapidly, satisfying nicotine cravings faster. Adding 50VG/50PG 20mg 10ml Nicotine Salt Shots to 50ml of e-Liquid will give you 60ml of 3.3mg nicotine strength e-liquid.

Can you vape Shortfill without nicotine shot?

Absolutely! There’s no requirement to add nicotine to shortfills other than to replace the nicotine you’d otherwise smoke from more harmful cigarettes, so it’s perfectly possible to go completely nicotine-free. Not only will you enjoy the flavour of your shortfill e-liquid at its purest, but you’ll also save some money you would otherwise spend on nicotine shots.

How to add nicotine to shortfill?

To add a Nic Shot to a Shortfill, first remove the ‘needle-nose’ cap from your shortfill bottle. You will typically find an ident or two between the cap and the bottle that you can insert a fingernail under to release the cap. With the cap off, unseal your Nic Shot bottle and pour the liquid into the shortfill. Once combined, dispose of the empty nic shot, reattach the shortfill’s cap, give the bottle a vigorous shake and allow to sit for a few minutes or even better, a few hours. When you’re ready to use it, give it another shake fully to combine then apply the e-liquid to your vape kit’s pod or tank chamber.

How long does a 100ml Shortfill last?

This depends on several factors, primarily how many puffs you take, how much e-liquid your bottle contains, and the kind of device you vape. 2ml of standard e-liquid offers approximately 600 puffs from a 2ml tank, which can be filled five times from one 10ml bottle for around 3000 puffs total. A 100ml shortfill bottle should therefore offer ten times that amount, 30,000 puffs. However, since Shortfills are typically High-VG and used with high-powered devices, you’re likely to consume more e-liquid, and faster, with every puff, reducing that estimate to between 20,000-25,000 puffs.

How many nic shots to put in 50ml?

Adding one 10ml Nic Shot to a 50ml Shortfill results in 60ml of e-liquid with a nicotine strength of 3mg. This strength is ideal for comfortable DTL (direct-to-lung) sub-ohm experience using a high-powered vape kits fitted with a sub-ohm coils. It is possible to add more nicotine shots for a higher nicotine strength, but you will need to decant some of base e-liquid to make space or top up as you go.
