The TPD (Tobacco Products Directive) does not allow the sale of nicotine-containing e-liquids in bottles larger than 10mls. In response to this, ‘shortfill’ bottles have been introduced to allow vapers to get more of their favourite e-liquids in bigger bottles with the most popular and shortfill size being a generous 50ml.

Shortfill bottles can actually accommodate 60mls of e-liquid, but they are sold with 10mls of available volume to allow you to add a nicotine shot later.

What Is A Nicotine Shot?

A nicotine shot or nic shot, is a 10ml bottle of pure nicotine which is generally unflavoured. This pure nicotine shot is then added to a 50ml bottle of 0mg flavoured e-liquid to create a nicotine-containing blend of your preferred strength.

Why Shortfills?

Shortfills are a great way to get your favourite juices in bigger bottles so that you don’t have to keep re-purchasing the same e-liquids so often. This is a much more economic method of keeping well-supplied with your most-used liquids, as each 50ml bottle provides as much e-liquid as five standard bottles.

How Does The Nicotine To E-Liquid Ratio Work When It Comes To Mg?

Most shortfills don’t tend to cater for those who need higher nicotine levels, with the common strength of shortfills generally being 0mg, 3mg and 6mg. The most common nicotine shot is normally 18mg of nicotine in a 10ml bottle. Most websites will offer to add a nic shot to your basket when you’re buying short fills.

For example, if you want to purchase a shortfill of Double Drip Raspberry Sherbet (because who wouldn’t?) and you want the nicotine strength to be 3mg, you will need to add ONE 10ml 18mg nicotine shot to the 50ml of e-liquid to get an overall nicotine strength of 3mg.
