While OXVA might not have quite the same name recognition as the big boys above, the company continues to produce some of our favourite vape kits, with 2022’s Origin 2 Pod Kit being a great example. The device is a pocket-sized yet powerful vape kit that boasts premium materials, such as stitched leather panels and zinc alloy and several stylish colours.

What are Sub-Ohm Vape Kits?
As 2022 slipped into 2023, vapers could relish the fact that we now have more choice in vaping gear than ever before. There are seemingly countless varieties of vape kits available to appeal to all kinds of vaper; from kits built to be as inconspicuous and easy to use as possible, the sort that release vapour with a simple puff (no buttons required), to more advanced devices that allow for unprecedented control over every minute aspect of your vaping experience. And while 2022 blurred the lines between simple, beginner-friendly starter kits and highly versatile, customisable, and powerful box mods even more than usual, we can still broadly define vape kits across two categories: ‘Plus-Ohm’ and ‘Sub-Ohm’.
‘Plus-Ohm’ and ‘Sub-Ohm’ refers to the resistance of the coil – the element that is heated by an electrical current from the vape kit’s battery which then evaporates e-liquid into vapour that you inhale. Vaping coils’ electrical resistance is measured in ‘ohms’, so where a coil is 1.0ohms or more, we refer to that coil as a ‘plus-ohm’, ‘MTL’ or ‘high-resistance’ coil. When the coil’s resistance is below 1.0ohms, we call it a ‘Sub-Ohm’, ‘DTL’ or ‘low-resistance’ coil.
The difference between plus-ohm and Sub-Ohm coils produce remarkably different vaping experiences: MTL (mouth-to-lung) in the case of plus-ohm devices, and DTL (direct-to-lung) in the case of Sub-Ohm devices, and gives rise to different styles of vape device as a result.
In the plus-ohm, MTL corner, you’ll find starter kits, classic pen vape kits, and many styles of pod kits. In the Sub-Ohm, DTL corner is where you’ll find high-powered ‘advanced vape kits’ or Sub-Ohm kits.
What are the benefits of Sub-Ohm Vape Kits?
One of the biggest benefits of Sub-Ohm vaping is the increase in vapour production. The lower resistance coils used in these kits allow for more power to be delivered to the coil, resulting in larger clouds of vapour. This is especially appealing for vapers who are looking for a more immersive and satisfying vaping experience, and who enjoy adjusting their device’s settings to experience the best vape possible.
Because Sub-Ohm coils generally require more power to produce vapour, such kits typically contain more powerful batteries. They may also feature more safety protections, such as short-circuit protection, over-heating protection, and over-discharge protection. Since they require bigger capacity batteries, you’ll find Sub-Ohm vape kits contain either an internal battery or are compatible with external batteries. What E-liquid should you use with Sub-Ohm Vape Kits?
When using a Sub-Ohm vape kit, it's important to use an e-liquid that is specifically formulated for Sub-Ohm vaping. This typically means using e-liquid with a lower nicotine strength (3mg or less) and higher VG (vegetable glycerin) content. These e-juices are, as you might expect, known as High-VG E-liquids.
The higher VG content provides a denser, smoother vapour while using e-liquid with a lower nicotine strength will help to prevent an overly harsh throat hit, which can occur when using higher nicotine strengths with Sub-Ohm coils. It's also important to choose e-liquid with good quality ingredients and to check the compatibility of the e-liquid with the device and coils you are using.
