How To Successfully Go From Smoking to Vaping

What is Vaping?

‘Vaping’ describes the use of an electronic cigarette, often referred to as an e-cigarette, as a method of consumimg nicotine with significantly less harmful additives than regular tobacco smoking.

E-cigarettes use a battery and a coil to heat a substance known as e-liquid, producing a vapour (much like water in a kettle) which is then inhaled. Unlike traditional cigarettes, the act of vaping does not produce harmful smoke which is damaging to the lungs and general health.

In August 2015, Public Health England (the Government body) championed vaping as 95% less harmful to health than tobacco*. This statistic partially reflects the growing popularity of e-cigarette use, with 3 million UK people currently vaping.

Making the Move to Vaping

We understand that going from cigarettes to an alternative like vaping can be a daunting prospect. That’s why we’ve put together three simple steps to get you started in the right direction:


1. Pick an e-liquid flavour
We have a huge selection of e-liquids in a variety of delicious flavour profiles – from tobaccos to fruits, menthols to desserts and everything in between, to offer a new and enjoyable experience.


2. Choose a Strength
The level of nicotine strength you require is generally based on your cigarette consumption and can be gradually reduced as your cravings decrease. As a rough guide, a 5-10 a-day smoker would require a 6mg nicotine e-liquid, a 10-15 a-day would require 12mg, and a 20+ cigarettes per day 18mg.


3. Select your vape kit
Although there are many different e-cigarette options out there, we think the best place to start is with a ‘classic’ style kit. These kits tend to come with all the components you need to get up and running and require very little assembly or prior knowledge of vaping. Classic kits tend to have a ‘pen’ style appearance and use a tank known as a clearomiser to hold the e-liquid before it is vaporised. They replicate the draw of a traditional cigarette that you would be used to, with the added flavour of an e-liquid. Sub-ohm kits work on a higher wattage with a lower throat hit for a direct to lung inhale, and work to deliver a more intense flavour of clouds. Pod kits are also available - either a closed system that has disposable one-time-use cartridges with specific flavours, or refillable pod system that allows you to use your own liquid in your favourite flavour and strength.

Understanding E-Liquid

The higher the quality of an e-liquid, the better the vaping experience. We recommend choosing an e-liquid from a reputable company that uses high-quality, reliably-sourced ingredients. With ingredients ethically sourced from the UK and Europe, our e-liquids are made of VG (Vegetable Glycerine), PG (Propylene Glycol), flavouring and nicotine – and nothing else.


Propylene Glycol

PG is an odourless, colourless liquid which is thin in consistency. It is used in e-liquid to provide the ‘throat hit’ which is often likened to the sensation of smoking without containing any of the harmful chemicals or additives found in tobacco.


Vegetable Glycerine

VG is a derivative of vegetable oil and is also recognised as a safe substance for consumption. It is used to thicken the consistency of e-liquid, which in turn creates the dense vapour clouds associated with sub-ohm vaping.

Choosing the Right E-liquid for Your First Vape Kit

E-Liquid Varieties

E-liquid is available in a number of different types suitable for use with different devices. Each variety offers you a different sensation to suit your preference.

Classic E-Liquid

Intended for use with low power high resistance classic kits.
Classic is the term given to e-liquids that contain a higher level of PG than VG. PG provides the ‘throat hit’ often likened to the tactile sensation of smoking and is therefore the preferred choice for those looking to stop smoking tobacco.

Sub-Ohm E-Liquid

Intended for use with high power low resistance sub-ohm kits. 
Sub-ohm e-liquid is often referred to as ‘max VG’, which means it has a higher percentage of VG than PG. Because VG has a thickening effect, these e-liquids are suited for high-wattage sub-ohm devices which are designed to produce a lot of vapour. This style of vaping is known as ‘sub-ohm’ and tends to be more of a hobbyist practise than a means to smoking cessation. Sub ohm vaping produces amazing flavour payoff and huge cloud production.

5050 E-Liquid

Intended for use with most vape devices.
50/50 e-liquid contains a 50% Vegetable Glycerine, 50% Propylene Glycol ratio, which allows for an extremely versatile vaping experience.

Nic Salt E-Liquid

Intended for use with low power high resistance classic kits.
Nicotine salt e-liquids, often referred to as ‘nic salts’, are designed to mimic the strength and sensation of the nicotine found in a traditional tobacco cigarette. Nic Salts deliver nicotine to the blood stream far more quickly than standard nicotine-containing e-liquids. This makes for an immediately satisfying vape which is particularly appealing to those looking for a stop-smoking aid.

Understanding Vape Kits

Vape kits, which come in all shapes and sizes, are the devices used to turn e-liquid in to vapour. On the whole, vape kits fall in to one of two camps: Classic or Sub-Ohm.

Classic

These kits are more often than not the starter kit of choice for most vapers. Most classic kits are ‘pen’ shaped and are generally used with high PG e-liquid. Classic kits produce moderate amounts of vapour and provide a ‘smoke-like’ sensation.

Sub-Ohm

The term ‘sub-ohm’ relates to resistance of the coil (heating element) being less than 1 ohm. This combined with a more powerful battery produces high levels of vapour often referred to as clouds. These devices are for use with high VG e-liquid.

Pod System

Pod kits are also available - either a closed system that has disposable one-time use cartridges with specific flavours, or refillable pod system that allows you to use your own liquid in your favourite flavour and strength.
