How do Nic Salts work?

Nicotine occurs naturally in several varieties of plant, but is found at the highest level in the tobacco plant. It is found mainly in the leaves of the plant. Most e-liquids on the market use a form of nicotine called freebase nicotine. With nicotine salt e-liquids, however, the addition of benzoic acids reacts to the nicotine, reducing its alkalinity to realise its salt form. This form of salt nicotine is more rapidly absorbed into the bloodstream, provides a gentler throat sensation when vaped and can also be vaped at higher temperatures and at higher concentrations of nicotine, something that would be quite uncomfortable with ordinary freebase nicotine.
